The Chinese Foreign Ministry said it would defend its "national interests" after US President Donald Trump told reporters he was considering a 10% tariff on Chinese goods.
"We have always believed that there are no winners in a trade war or a tariff war," department spokeswoman Mao Ning said at a daily briefing, foreign media reported.
"China is firmly determined to protect national interests," she was also quoted as saying, writes A2 CNN.
Trump says the tariff could take effect on February 1 (next weekend) and is based on shipments of fentanyl from China to Mexico and Canada. China has previously defended its efforts to stop the flow of illegal drugs.
As we have reported, Trump has also threatened changes to import taxes on Canada and Mexico, as well as the EU, writes A2 CNN. (A2 Televizion)
