European Union members will vote on April 9 on countermeasures to US tariffs on steel and aluminium. The Commission's proposal will be approved unless it is opposed by a qualified majority of 15 member states, representing 65 percent of the EU's population, Reuters reports.
European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen sharply criticized the new US tariffs and announced that the EU is already preparing countermeasures.
"Europe is in the final stages of the first package of measures in response to the first steel tariffs and we are preparing additional measures if negotiations do not yield results," Von der Leyen said.
The Trump administration, which declared April 2 as "Liberation Day," also imposed 25 percent tariffs on imports of all foreign-made cars. (A2 Televizion)
