The Meta company, owner of the WhatsApp, Facebook and Instagram platforms, has reacted after accusations made by the Iranian government, which has called on citizens to delete the WhatsApp application, claiming that it shares information with Israel, writes A2 CNN.
In an official statement, Meta has categorically denied these accusations, describing them as untrue and dangerous. “We are concerned that these false reports could be used as an excuse to block our services, precisely at a time when people need them most,” the statement said.
Meta emphasizes that messages sent via WhatsApp are protected with end-to-end encryption, meaning that only the sender and recipient can read them. “No one else, including WhatsApp itself, has access to these messages,” it further emphasizes.
The company also clarified that it does not provide information en masse to any government. “For more than a decade, Meta has published regular transparency reports describing the very limited cases where data has been requested from WhatsApp, in accordance with applicable laws,” its spokesperson added.
This reaction comes at a time of high tension between Iran and Israel, with clashes extending into the cyber and information fields. (A2 Televizion)
