Kiev has been rocked by a furious Russian attack. Combat drones have injured at least 11 people, including two children.
Several residential buildings across the city were reported to have been destroyed. Falling debris from the destroyed drones caused fires in residential buildings in the Obolonskyi and Sviatoshynskyi districts of Kiev.
Ukraine's emergency service said on the Telegram messaging app that 76 firefighters were involved in extinguishing overnight fires in Kiev, which also included a small hearth in the central Shevchenkivsky district of Kiev.
The capital, its surrounding region and the eastern half of Ukraine were under airstrike alert for about an hour, starting just after midnight Sunday local time.
Meanwhile, Kiev Mayor Vitali Klitschko reported on Telegram that there was one victim and two children injured. There was no immediate comment from Moscow about the attack, which came amid uncertainty over whether both sides would halt war activities during Moscow's May 8-10 commemorations of the victory of the Soviet Union and its allies in World War II.
Meanwhile, the Kremlin, through its spokesman, has announced that it wanted a "final" response from Ukraine to Russian President Vladimir Putin's offer for a three-day ceasefire to coincide with the commemorations of the victory in World War II on May 9.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy has appeared to rule out such a ceasefire, saying he is only ready to agree if the ceasefire lasts at least 30 days, an idea that Putin has said needs a lot of work before it can become a reality.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters that Putin's three-day offer was a test to assess Kiev's willingness to seek a peaceful solution to end the war. (A2 Televizion)
