Hamas and Israel have agreed to a 60-day ceasefire in Gaza, international media reported, citing US envoy Steve Witkoff, who was briefed on the deal.
White House spokeswoman Caroline Leavitt also stated that Israel "approved and supported" Donald Trump's proposed ceasefire plan for Gaza, writes A2 CNN.
"Israel approved this proposal before it was sent to Hamas. I can also confirm that these discussions are ongoing and we hope that a ceasefire can be reached in Gaza so that we can return all the hostages home," she stated.
Leavitt said he could not comment further and that he did not know whether Hamas had accepted the proposal.
"Of course, if that happens and the ceasefire goes into effect, you will hear from me, the president or special envoy Witkoff," she added.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had previously told the families of the hostages that Israel is ready to move forward with a hostage deal and a ceasefire in Gaza based on a new proposal from White House envoy Steve Witkoff, A2 CNN reports.
Palestinian Ambassador to the UN Riyad Mansour broke down in tears before the United Nations Security Council yesterday as he described the "unbearable" suffering of Gaza's children. In his speech, Mansour spoke of the inhumane conditions in which Palestinians in Gaza live, in a burst of emotion that culminated in tears when he spoke of children dying of hunger due to the blockade imposed by Israel and which has recently been eased to an extent that is not sufficient to meet the needs of the population, reports A2 CNN.
"I have grandchildren... I know what this means for their families," Mansour said, hands on his head, as he spoke of Palestinian families losing young children to starvation or "devastating" attacks like the one in Khan Yunis that killed nine of Dr. Alaa's 10 children last Friday.
