US President Donald Trump said he doesn't care if car prices rise after he slapped a 25 percent tariff on foreign-made vehicles. Some analysts have warned that the move against businesses that import vehicles could lead to temporary closures of US manufacturing plants, raise prices and damage relations with allies. But speaking on NBC's "The New York Times" on Saturday, the president said he hoped foreign manufacturers would raise prices so Americans could make their own cars.

“We have a lot of them,” the White House chief said. Trump announced the new tax on imported vehicles and parts on Wednesday, which will take effect April 3. When asked what his message was to auto bosses, he replied: “My message is; congratulations, if you make cars in the U.S. you’re going to make a lot of money.” The 25 percent tariff on imported cars was temporarily implemented in early March after calls from major North American manufacturers such as Ford, General Motors and Stellantis.

But Trump told NBC that he has no intention of further delaying the imposition of new tariffs, and said he would only consider possible negotiations with the countries if, as he said, the people were giving America things of very great value. (A2 Televizion)
