Millions of Muslims are celebrating Eid al-Fitr today, the most important day of the Islamic calendar, which crowns the Holy month of Ramadan. A2 CNN reports that Saudi Arabia and other Gulf countries mark the holiday this Sunday, but in other countries in the Middle East, Eid will not be celebrated before Monday. The time of this holiday is determined depending on the Muslim lunar calendar. Over 120,000 believers performed morning prayers at the Al-Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem, on the occasion of Eid al-Fitr.

Al Aqsa, located in the heart of Jerusalem's Old City, is the third holiest site for Muslims and has often been the scene of clashes between Israelis and Palestinians throughout history.

Palestinians, marking their second Eid al-Fitr since the start of the war with Israel, also gathered at the badly damaged Khulafaa mosque in Jabalia on Sunday to pray amid the destruction.

"We are here for Eid al-Fitr. We are here to celebrate God's rituals amidst destruction and the sound of artillery. We are in difficult circumstances, but we insisted on coming here and praying. Other people are celebrating today in peace and quiet, we are doing it amidst destruction and bombing," says a Palestinian woman.

"We will pray in all circumstances. Even though we have so many martyrs, so many victims, prisoners and wounded, we will celebrate. This is a big day for us," says another.

Thousands of worshippers in Qatar packed the stadium that will host eight matches of the 2022 World Cup to attend morning prayers at the end of the holy month of Ramadan. The worshippers called for reconciliation and brotherhood to prevail worldwide. (A2 Televizion)
