Mothers in Gaza raise alarm: We are seeing our children weaken from hunger

The UN's humanitarian chief, Tom Fletcher, told BBC Radio 4's Today programme that 14,000 babies could die within the next 48 hours if aid does not reach them.

According to foreign media, mothers in Gaza told BBC Arabic's Middle East Daily program that they are "watching their children weaken from hunger."

Shahinaz, a mother of two, says her seven-month-old baby "constantly cries out of hunger."

She explains that her baby's immune system is very weak and her daughter suffers from a calcium deficiency. "No one is able to help us in our suffering," she adds, writes A2 CNN.

Fatima Khamis, a mother of two young children, says she can no longer produce breast milk and formula for her baby's growth is unaffordable.

"My baby's face is pale from hunger and he is very weak," she says, adding that "the root cause remains the lack of proper nutrition."

A third mother, Hana Mahmoud Ismail, says that lack of nutrition during pregnancy affected her baby's development.

"He can't walk yet and his teeth haven't started coming in yet," she said of her five-month-old son.
