German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier insisted during a meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on a peaceful solution to the war in Gaza. He stressed the need to "show political prospects for ending the war," a spokeswoman said. Steinmeier also stressed the need to allow humanitarian aid to reach the population in Gaza.
Shortly after the German president's meeting with Netanyahu in Israel, there was an alarm due to a rocket attack from the Gaza Strip. The German president and part of the delegation were sent to a bunker safe from airstrikes.
Netanyahu plans new offensive
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced that in the coming days there will be a new offensive to crush the Islamist Hamas in the Gaza Strip. In a meeting with Israeli reservists, the Israeli prime minister said: "The destruction of Hamas and the release of all our hostages - they are one and indivisible." Netanyahu declared that "in the coming days, we will enter with full force to complete the campaign." This means defeating Hamas.
In this context, the Israeli army called on residents of several areas in the northern Gaza Strip to evacuate. This is "the final warning before the attack," army spokesman Avichay Adraee wrote on the online service X.
Macron sharply criticizes Israel's actions in Gaza
French President Emmanuel Macron criticized the new decisions of the Israeli prime minister and said on TF1 that "what Benjamin Netanyahu's government is currently doing is unacceptable". He said that Israel is blocking humanitarian aid from France and other countries to the population in Gaza. The humanitarian crisis in the coastal strip is devastating, the French president said. There is no water and no medicine.
France has always recognized Israel's right to defense after the massacre by Hamas and other terrorist groups on October 7, 2023, but has also made it clear that the solution does not lie in indiscriminate attacks on the Gaza Strip, Macron said. DW (A2 Televizion)
