The Trump administration has proposed a new minerals agreement with Ukraine, Reuters International News Agency reports, citing diplomatic sources.

The US has revised its original proposal, the sources said, and it does not give Ukraine any future security guarantees, but requires it to contribute to a joint investment fund all revenues from the use of natural resources managed by state and private enterprises throughout Ukrainian territory, A2 writes.

The terms presented by Washington go far beyond the agreement discussed in the days before the controversial Oval Office meeting last month between US President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy.

Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent has been leading the negotiations for the United States, one of the sources said.

The proposal does not mention the US taking ownership of Ukraine's nuclear power plants, under the draft agreement, something Trump had previously talked about.

Trump has said a minerals deal would help secure a peace deal by giving the United States a financial stake in Ukraine's future. He also sees it as America's way of getting back some of the tens of billions of dollars it has given Ukraine in financial and military aid since Russia invaded three years ago. (A2 Televizion)
