At 06:00 a.m., a cease-fire between Israel and Hamas in Gaza began to allow the exchange of hostages from the Jewish state for Palestinian prisoners.
It is likely that 13 Israeli hostages will be released in the afternoon, the first of a list of 50 characters held prisoner by Hamas since October 7, who will be "exchanged" for 39 Palestinians, all women and children.
The Israeli Penitentiary Service has a list of 39 Palestinian prisoners who will be released from Ofer prison in the West Bank shortly before noon, being sent to east Jerusalem.
Hours after launching, the ceasefire appeared to be working as Israeli troops were pictured leaving Gaza as a temporary period of peace begins.
Tanks and other military vehicles were seen rolling along the Israeli border as soldiers smiled and raised their hands in the air in victory.
Likewise, the first trucks with humanitarian aid have entered Gaza through the Rafah border crossing.
A large convoy of aid trucks was lined up at the Rafah border crossing in readiness ahead of the ceasefire. An Egyptian official revealed to CNN that at least 90 aid trucks and 7 fuel trucks have entered Gaza so far.
The Coordinator of Government Activities in the Territory of Israel (COGAT) also said in a statement that four fuel tankers and four tankers carrying cooking gas entered Gaza.
" Fuel and cooking gas have been earmarked for the operation of essential humanitarian infrastructure in Gaza and was approved by the Israeli government as part of the ceasefire ," COGAT added.
About 4 trucks loaded with food, medicine, water and fuel (between 120,000 and 150,000 liters of diesel) are expected to arrive in Gaza from Egypt every day starting Friday.
" Two hundred trucks, loaded with food, medicine and water, will enter every day for the first time since the start of the Israeli war in the Strip ," said Diaa Rashwan, the head of Egypt's State Information Service.
Rashwan said Egypt will continue to receive groups of injured people from Gaza for treatment and facilitate the evacuation of foreigners and dual nationals stranded in the territory.
Also for the first time since the start of the conflict, Egypt will allow Palestinians who wish to enter Gaza through the Rafah border crossing.
