Donald Trump, immediately after the resignation of Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, brought back the proposal he had made, perhaps not entirely as a joke, a month ago, that Canada become the 51st state of America.
In a post on his social network, Truth Social, Trump wrote that "a lot of people in Canada would love to be the 51st state of the USA."
He adds that "the United States can no longer maintain the large trade deficits and subsidies that Canada needs to escape the sinking ".
According to Trump, Justin Trudeau knew this and therefore resigned. “ If Canada were to join the US, there would be no tariffs, taxes would be greatly reduced, and they would be ABSOLUTELY SAFE from the threat of Russian and Chinese ships constantly surrounding them. Together, what a great Nation we would be!!!", wrote the newly elected President.
Trump's remarks come less than a month after his meeting with Trudeau, who flew to Florida after his threats to impose tariffs on Canada.
Then Trump poked fun at Trudeau by calling him governor like the US heads of state, instead of the prime minister title he has.
“I will be happy to see the Governor again soon, to continue our detailed discussions on tariffs and trade, the results of which will be truly spectacular for everyone! ", Trump wrote at the time in Social Truth.
Fox News meanwhile reported that during the meeting, Donald Trump suggested to Trudeau that if Canada could not afford the 25% tariffs, it could become the 51st US state. (A2 Televizion)
