Two thousand US National Guard troops will be mobilized on the orders of President Donald Trump as federal agents in Los Angeles faced several hundred demonstrators on the second day of protests against immigration raids. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth warned that the Pentagon was prepared to mobilize active-duty troops if violence continues in Los Angeles, saying Marines at nearby Camp Pendleton were on high alert.

Federal agents clashed with protesters Saturday in the Paramount neighborhood of southeast Los Angeles, where some demonstrators waved Mexican flags. A second protest in downtown Los Angeles on Saturday evening drew about 60 people who chanted slogans against Immigration and Customs Enforcement, A2 CNN reported.

California Governor Gavin Newsom attacked Trump's decision to mobilize 2,000 National Guard troops, saying it would further escalate tensions. According to him, the step was not taken because of a lack of rule of law but simply for show. Trump wrote on the social platform, Truth Social, that if Newsom and Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass could not do their jobs, then federal authorities would intervene to solve the problem.

The unrest erupted Friday after Immigration and Customs Enforcement raids on immigrant housing in Los Angeles. About 118 people were arrested during the operations this week, including 44 on Friday. Governor Newsom condemned the raids as an atrocity. (A2 Televizion)
