Russian President Vladimir Putin has floated the idea of a "transitional administration" for Ukraine under UN auspices, in order to organize "democratic" presidential elections in the country and then negotiate a peace agreement with the new authorities.
"We, of course, can discuss with the United States, also with European countries and, of course, with our partners and friends, under the auspices of the UN, the possibility of creating a transitional administration in Ukraine," Putin said during a trip to Murmansk, A2 CNN reports.
The second round of Russian-American consultations on resolving the Ukrainian conflict could be held in Riyadh in mid-April, the Russian news agency Tass reported, citing a source familiar with the process of organizing the negotiations, writes A2 CNN.
“Technical consultations between Russia and the United States will continue, although organizational issues regarding the next round of talks have not yet been discussed,” the source said. “The delegations may hold another meeting in Riyadh, approximately in mid-April.” Russia and the United States held consultations in Riyadh on March 24, which lasted more than 12 hours.
