Toppling Bashar al Assad, Netanyahu: Thanks to the Israeli strike on Iran's

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu hailed the overthrow of Bashar al-Assad, calling Sunday, December 8, a "historic day" that he said came from Israel's strikes against Assad's supporters, Iran and Hezbollah in Lebanon.

Netanyahu made the remarks from an observation post in the Israeli-controlled Golan Heights, which oversees Syria.

"We will not allow any hostile force on our border," he said.

"This is a historic day in the history of the Middle East. The Assad regime is a central link in Iran's axis of evil. This regime has fallen. This is a direct result of the strikes we have inflicted on Iran and Hezbollah, the main backers of the Assad regime. This created a chain reaction throughout the Middle East. Together with the Minister of Defense and with the full support of the cabinet, I directed the Israel Defense Forces to capture the buffer zone between our country and Syria and the command positions adjacent to it. We will not allow any hostile force to settle on our border. Hundreds of Syrian children have been born here in Israel, so we extend the same hand of peace to our neighbors. First of all, they are the brothers of our Druze brothers in the state of Israel, and we also extend the hand of peace to the Kurds, Christians and Muslims, who want to live in peace with Israel," Netanyahu added.
