30-year-old YouTuber Trevor Daniel Jacob has been sentenced to six months in prison by a court in America after he staged an accident by crashing the small plane he was traveling in to get more views on social media.
The former Olympic athlete who participated in the Sochi Games in snowboarding admitted that he intentionally crashed his plane in November 2021 in the Los Padres forest of California.
The video, which Jacob shot using several cameras mounted on various parts of the plane, as well as a video camera and a selfie stick, shows him taking off from the Lompoc Municipal Airport before jumping out of the Taylorcraft BL-65 his about 35 minutes later.
According to prosecutors, the "I Crashed My Airplane" video released on December 23, 2021 was filmed to promote a sponsorship with a company.
The investigation also started thanks to some social network users, who after seeing the accident noticed some strange elements.
According to them, Jacob was wearing a parachute, made no attempt to land the plane to a safe area and took a camera and selfie stick that were with him when he jumped from the plane.
The YouTuber is also accused of lying to investigators and a Federal Aviation Administration safety inspector. Furthermore, he had also tried to obstruct the investigation by disposing of the plane wreckage. (A2 Televizion)
