Bright red spots have appeared in recent days on the surface of the Sea of Galilee, in Israel, causing concern.
Experts say that the appearance of the spots is due to the appearance of green algae of the species Botryococcus braunii that had multiplied in recent years.
As for the red color, it is due to the accumulation of a natural pigment from algae combined with exposure to strong sunlight, the ministry assured.

The dye is not toxic, the Jerusalem Post reports. The competent authority assured that, despite the dye, the waters of the Sea of Galilee are safe for swimming, and no allergic reactions have been recorded.
Everything is fine, scientists say, but no one can avoid the temptation to make comparisons. Something that even the Jerusalem Post could not avoid, remembering that all this brings to mind the first of the ten plagues of Pharaoh, during which the waters of the Nile turned the color of blood.
