After the diplomatic scandal in the White House between Donald Trump and Volodymyr Zelensky, Great Britain has opened its arms to Ukraine. There are 2.74 billion euros in loans from which Ukraine will benefit. Keir Starmer at the end of the meeting with Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced that it will support Kiev with 3.5 billion euros per year

A day after the White House scandal, Britain has granted Ukraine a €2.74 billion loan to strengthen its defenses. The news was announced by the British Treasury and the Ukrainian Finance Ministry. The first tranche of the loan is expected to be given to Ukraine next week.

Finance Ministers Rachel Reeves and Serhii Marshenko signed the agreement at a ceremony on Saturday. The loan is a sign of "unwavering support for the Ukrainian people," he said. Earlier, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer had given Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy a particularly warm welcome in London.

“I am grateful to the people and government of the United Kingdom for their great support since the beginning of this war,” Zelensky wrote on the X platform. With the help of the billion-dollar British loan, Zelensky wants to improve the Ukrainian army: “The funds will go to the production of weapons in Ukraine. The loan will improve Ukraine’s defense capabilities and will be repaid with the proceeds from frozen Russian assets. “This is true justice – the one who started the war must pay for it,” Zelensky wrote.

Starmer stressed that both wanted to achieve "a lasting peace for Ukraine, based on sovereignty and security for Ukraine - so important for Europe and so important for the United Kingdom."

Zelensky replied that he had seen hundreds of supporters gathered outside Downing Street. “I would like to thank you, the people of the United Kingdom, for your extraordinary support since the beginning of the war.” He said he was “very happy” to also meet King Charles III. Zelensky continued. “We in Ukraine are very happy to have such a strategic partner.” He added: “We count on your support.”

London will support Kiev until at least the 2030/31 financial year and will provide military aid equivalent to over 3.5 billion euros per year. (A2 Televizion)
