Saudi Arabia to meet again on Sunday, Russia and Ukraine launch airstrikes after

The lull lasted just hours after the peace call. Russia and Ukraine carried out air strikes, damaging each other's infrastructure, after President Vladimir Putin rejected a US proposal for a 30-day ceasefire. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky says Russia targeted "civilian infrastructure" overnight, including a hospital in Sumy.

Putin agreed to a 30-day pause in attacks on energy infrastructure during a phone call with Donald Trump on Tuesday, but ruled out a more comprehensive ceasefire. Talks on Ukraine will continue on Sunday in Saudi Arabia, U.S. envoy Steve Witkoff said. During the conversation, Putin and Trump also agreed that Ukraine and Russia would each exchange 175 prisoners today.

“We agreed to an immediate ceasefire for all energy infrastructure, with the understanding that we will work quickly to have a complete ceasefire and, ultimately, an end to this very terrible war between Russia and Ukraine. This war would never have started if I had been president. Many elements of the peace agreement were discussed, including the fact that thousands of soldiers are being killed, and both Presidents Putin and Zelensky would like to see this end. That process is now in full force and effect, and we will, hopefully, for the sake of humanity, finish this job!” said Donald Trump, President of the United States.

The Kremlin said in a statement that the two leaders had a "detailed and frank exchange of views" on Ukraine during a phone call in which Putin said the resolution of the conflict must be "comprehensive, sustainable and long-term," taking into account Russia's security interests and the root causes of the war.
