Two teenage students were killed and another was injured in a shooting at Antioch High School in South Nashville on Wednesday.
The gunman, a 17-year-old, shot two students in the cafeteria near the school at around 11:09 a.m. before killing himself.
One of the victims, a female, was immediately taken to Vanderbilt University Medical Center, but later died from her injuries.
The incident comes just over two years after another similar tragedy in Nashville, where three students and three staff members were shot dead at The Covenant School. After that attack, police intervened and killed the shooter.
Tennessee Governor Bill Lee expressed his condolences and said he was praying for the victims, their families and the school community.
Sen. Jeff Yarbro of Nashville called on the legislature to start addressing safety concerns to keep children safe in schools. He stressed that "high school kids should be able to go to school without fear and without risk to their lives." (A2 Televizion)
