US President Donald Trump said Russia will face "high levels of taxes, tariffs and sanctions" if President Vladimir Putin does not end the war in Ukraine.
Trump, in a post on his "Social Truth" platform, began by expressing his "love" for the Russian people and his "good relationship" with Putin, and then issued a direct warning.
He writes: “IT WILL ONLY GET WORSE. If we don’t make a ‘deal’ and if we don’t make it soon, I have no choice but to impose high levels of taxes, tariffs, and sanctions on everything Russia sells to the United States and other countries. It’s time to MAKE A DEAL. NO MORE LIVES MUST BE LOST.”
Russia is already the most sanctioned country in the world and there are very few entities or key sectors that are not already subject to US and European restrictions.
Russian banks and military-industrial companies have adapted and developed solutions to evade existing sanctions.
