"Helios" closes the Acropolis. Not the ancient Greek god, but the celestial object he represents, the Sun. Scorching high temperatures have forced authorities to temporarily close the tourist attraction from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.

This was confirmed by the Greek Ministry of Culture. Meteorological forecasts announced temperatures reaching up to 42 degrees Celsius for this European country, prompting authorities to issue a fire alarm and high risk to citizens. Before the closure of the Acropolis for several hours, tourists were seen equipped with hats and umbrellas, as they waited in line to visit the wonder of the past amid the scorching heat.

"I'm from Argentina, so I'm used to the heat, but I think it's very important to plan before the heat wave hits," said Thomas, a tourist from Argentina.

"We're from Texas, so we're used to this kind of heat, and it doesn't feel like it's unbearable to us. We're used to temperatures over 40 degrees. This doesn't seem like such a bad situation, especially when you're in the shade and the wind is blowing, and you even enjoy it. I honestly think the Greek authorities, the Acropolis officials did a great job of only issuing timed tickets, so there's never a long line there, which is actually a great idea," said Theodore Kisloph, a tourist from Texas, USA.

Authorities in Greece have advised workers working outdoors to stop working for five hours between noon and 5 p.m., when temperatures are normally at their highest. The heat wave is expected to last for several days before it eases.  (A2 Televizion)
