Donald Trump is confident that Ukraine will soon sign the rare earth minerals deal. On board Air Force One, the US president stressed that hundreds of people have lost their lives this week in Ukraine, but according to him, this would not have happened if he had been president.
"They're going to sign the minerals deal. I think they will and that will be clear in the next two to three days. But I want them to want peace... They haven't shown it to the extent that they should. This week hundreds of people have died in Ukraine, we have to stop this. It would never have happened if I was president," President Trump said, according to A2 CNN.
Zelensky and Trump had planned to sign the minerals deal, which would give the US access to some mineral resources in Ukraine, before Zelenskiy's visit to the White House turned into a clash between the two leaders, after which it was not signed.
US President Donald Trump said on Sunday that the United States had "ended" a suspension of intelligence sharing with Ukraine and that he expects good results from upcoming talks with Ukrainian officials in Saudi Arabia, writes A2 CNN.
CIA Director John Ratcliffe said Wednesday that the US had halted intelligence sharing with Ukraine, piling pressure on Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy to cooperate with Trump in calling for peace talks with Russia.
The suspension, which could cost lives by harming Ukraine's ability to defend against Russian missile attacks, followed a halt in US military aid to Kiev.
U.S. officials will meet with a Ukrainian delegation in Saudi Arabia on Tuesday in part to determine whether Ukraine is willing to make material concessions to Russia to end the war. Also hanging over the Jeddah talks is the fate of a minerals deal between Washington and Kiev.
