Donald Trump has expressed his anger at Vladimir Putin over his stance on a ceasefire in Ukraine and threatened to impose tariffs on Russian oil exports if Russia does not agree to a ceasefire within a month.
The US president has threatened to impose a 25% or 50% tariff on countries that buy oil from Russia. "If Russia and I don't make a deal to stop the bloodshed in Ukraine, and if I think it was Russia's fault - which it may not be - then I will put secondary tariffs on all the oil that comes out of Russia," Trump told NBC News.
The comments came after Putin suggested on Russian television that Ukraine could be placed under a temporary UN administration to organize new elections. Trump, who had previously called Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy a “dictator,” said he was “very angry” with Putin for undermining the Ukrainian leader’s legitimacy.
Trump also warned Iran that if it does not reach a deal to limit its nuclear program, “there will be bombing like never before.” Alternatively, he suggested imposing additional economic sanctions on Tehran.
Trump expressed his determination to pressure Russia for a ceasefire in Ukraine and is expected to speak with Putin this week. The statements come at a time when Russia has continued its offensive in Kharkiv, causing casualties among Ukrainian soldiers.
Meanwhile, the US president has reinforced his stance on Greenland, stating that the US will take it, not ruling out the possibility of using military force. (A2 Televizion)
