President Volodymyr Zelensky has said that questions about the deployment of foreign peacekeeping troops in Ukraine could potentially be raised at a meeting of the leaders of Germany, France, Poland and NATO, among others, tomorrow in Brussels.
According to foreign media, speaking at a joint press conference with Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk in Lviv, Zelensky said that the issue of strengthening Ukraine on the battlefield and geopolitically could also be discussed at this meeting.
Speculation that Europe could put boots on the ground in Ukraine if a ceasefire with Russia is reached has grown as countries await Donald Trump's return to the White House in January.
Trump has made it clear that he will push for an immediate ceasefire to end the conflict and that he sees Europeans as tasked with taking primary responsibility for security on their continent, writes A2 CNN.
Yesterday, German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius said his country would likely play a role in securing a future ceasefire agreement between Russia and Ukraine, but that it was too early to say what a peacekeeping force might look like. .
"If there is a ceasefire, then of course the Western community, the NATO partners, potentially the UN and the EU will have to discuss how to ensure such peace, such a ceasefire," he said.
"And it is clear that Germany as Europe's largest economy would play a role there," concluded Zelensky, A2 CNN writes. (A2 Televizion)
