The new Syrian authorities have destroyed a large stockpile of drugs, including about a million pills of Captagon, an amphetamine-like stimulant that was Syria's main export during the ousted Assad regime.
According to security officials, the drugs were found during an inspection of a security compound in the Kafr Sousa neighborhood of Damascus. During the operation, large quantities of cannabis, tramadol and alcohol were also destroyed.
Captagon has been a major problem for the region, flooding the black market, with Saudi Arabia as the main destination. The new authorities said the move was aimed at protecting Syrian society and stopping smuggling routes linked to the former regime. (A2 Televizion)
