The European Union Election Observation Mission has begun work on the Kosovo parliamentary elections to be held on February 9, 2025. During a press conference, the Head of the EU Mission, Nathalie Loiseau, announced that this is the seventh EU election observation mission in Kosovo.
"The February 9 elections are very important. They are the first elections held under the new electoral law. The new electoral law also takes into account the recommendations of the European Union and their progress," said the head of the EU mission, Nathalie Loiseau.
The Head of the EU Mission further emphasized that their duties are to closely observe the electoral and election process in Kosovo. They will assist and ultimately issue a report on the elections and their standards.
The tasks of the EU Election Observation Mission are to assist and observe the electoral process and to ensure that it meets European standards and EU recommendations, in order to ensure transparent and fair elections.
The objective is for citizens to freely express their preference through voting. The presence of the mission also underlines Kosovo's support for strengthening democracy in the country."
Long-term observers come from 18 countries, including EU countries, Norway and Switzerland. Shortly before election day, the Mission will be reinforced with 36 short-term observers, a delegation of MEPs and up to 36 diplomats from EU countries, Canada, Norway and Switzerland.
The EU election observation mission will present preliminary findings at a conference two days after the elections. (A2 Televizion)
