The Hague Tribunal extends the detention of Jakup Krasniqi and Rexhep Selimi

The Kosovo Specialist Chambers in The Hague have decided to extend the detention of former KLA fighters Jakup Krasniqi and Rexhep Selimi for another two months.

The decision was made on March 13, 2025, by the presiding judge Charles Smith III. For both defendants, the panel of judges found that there is insufficient information that they could flee justice, but there is a risk that they will obstruct the proceedings of the Kosovo Specialist Chambers in The Hague, as well as commit other crimes.

These crimes, according to the judges, are at risk of being committed against those perceived as opponents of the Kosovo Liberation Army, including witnesses who have provided or may provide testimony in the coming days.

The panel that made the decision concluded that none of the alternative conditions could mitigate the existing risks except that of detention in the DSK facilities.

The Specialized Prosecutor's Office, on September 30, 2022, submitted the confirmed amended indictment against Hashim Thaçi, Kadri Veseli, Jakup Krasniqi and Rexhep Selim, which consists of ten counts of charges, where the 4 former KLA leaders are charged with war crimes and crimes against humanity. The Specialized Prosecutor accuses the KLA four of having committed war crimes also in Gjilan, Budakovë and Semetishte.

The indictment against Hashim Thaçi, Kadri Veseli, Rexhep Selim, and Jakup Krasniqi was confirmed on October 26, 2020. (A2 Televizion)
