Ministry of Economy of Kosovo: The large load is endangering the energy network

The Ministry of Economy of Kosovo has called on citizens to save electricity, since, according to this institution, consumption has reached a very high level and is endangering the energy network.

Through a post on Facebook, the ministry said that on the evening of December 24, it held a meeting with the System, Transmission and Market Operator (KOSTT) and the Electric Energy Distribution Company (KEDS) to address the electricity supply situation, after complaints that citizens have made in recent days.

"KOSTT and KEDS report that, with the decrease in temperatures, electricity consumption has reached very high levels, over 1400 MW at certain times. As a result, our electrical energy system is overloaded, causing technical difficulties in supply and endangering the network; thus, it was necessary for the operators to disconnect in some settlements where the load was unaffordable for the network", said the Ministry of Economy.

According to the authorities, due to the overload, citizens in Ferizaj, Lipjan, Gjakovë, Malishevë, Gjilan, Shtime, Istog, Prizren and Fushë Kosovë have experienced power outages.

"Throughout the following week, in order to help the electric-energy system, we ask the citizens to be as careful as possible in the consumption of energy, especially during the hours of the morning from 09:00-12:00 and in the afternoon from 18:00-00:00 . Saving energy in these hours is essential to avoid overloads and to maintain the functionality of the system for everyone", said the Ministry of Economy.

Kosovo currently produces electricity in two thermal power plants, Kosovo A and B, which operate with coal. However, the state also imports electricity in order to meet the growing demands of consumers./ REL (A2 Televizion)
