The Special Prosecutor's Office of Kosovo announced on Friday that it has indicted five suspects for war crimes, acts which they allegedly committed against the civilian population during the war in Kosovo in 1998-1999.
The indictment was filed by the Special Department at the Basic Court in Pristina against the defendants with the initials DC, DN, M.SH, NS and SJ
According to a press release for the five defendants, there is a well-founded suspicion that during the war in Kosovo, specifically in the Gjilan region, as part of a criminal group, in collaboration with other unidentified members of this group, armed and wearing camouflaged uniforms and non-regular uniforms of the Serbian police or army participated in the killing of eight Albanian civilians.
"Specifically, two of these victims were placed in a pile of wood, where one of them was burned alive, they had beaten, ill-treated, tortured, robbed, expelled the Albanian civilian population, these actions are sanctioned according to local laws, customs of war and Conventions Geneva International Convention and the Additional Protocols, therefore, - with this, they have committed the criminal offense, War Crimes Against the Population Civil from Article 142 related to Article 22 of the LP of RSFJ", the announcement states.
Further in the announcement it is announced that for the defendants M.Sh and NS, there is a well-founded suspicion that during the implementation of the control order, weapons were found in their ownership and possession, in violation of the applicable law regarding weapons, which the same have committed the criminal offense of unauthorized ownership, control or possession of weapons, from article 366 par.1 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Kosovo (KPRK).
