The Vetëvendosje Movement has not given up on Albulena Haxhiu's candidacy for the position of Speaker of the Assembly. The first to announce this fact was the number two of the Vetëvendosje Movement, Glauk Konjufca, from the assembly rostrum.

Albulena Haxhiu once again received only 57 votes in favor, out of the 61 votes needed to take the post. 41 deputies from PDK, LDK and AAK voted against her, while the three deputies from the Social Democratic Initiative abstained again.

The leader of the Democratic Party of Kosovo, Memli Krasniqi, declared that “Vetëvendosje’s arbitrary insistence on Albulena Haxhiu is making it impossible to move from this position.” Krasniqi said that there are no votes for Albin Kurti as prime minister, and according to him, Kurti is “sacrificing Albulena Haxhiu.”

Hykmet Bajrami, who has been proposed as the head of the LDK Parliamentary Group, said that the winning party of the elections cannot impose the vote for the Assembly. According to her, institutions are constituted by political agreement, but the LVV is insisting on taking all institutional positions without having a majority in the Assembly.

Meanwhile, Vetevendosje Movement MP Hekuran Murati said that elections are the last resort, however he expressed that they are ready. After the failure of the seventh attempt to constitute the Parliament, he said that today "there was progress and a decrease in the votes against the Speaker of Parliament."

In today's session, the deputies were supposed to appoint the speaker and five deputy speakers, in order to finally constitute the Assembly of Kosovo. Only after the constitution of the Assembly can the way be opened for the formation of the new government.

Vetëvendosje won the February 9 elections with about 42 percent of the vote, or 48 seats. It still needs at least 61 votes to form a new government. (A2 Televizion)
