Relations with Serbia, regional cooperation, membership in NATO and relations between the two countries were the focus of the meeting of the Deputy Secretary of the United States of America for Management and Resources, Richard Verma, with Prime Minister Albin Kurti in Pristina. The latter expressed his gratitude for the steadfast support of the USA towards Kosovo and for the partnership between the two countries in all stages of state building, as the main and strategic ally.
The Prime Minister of Kosovo informed the American diplomat about Serbia's continuous violations of the Basic Agreement, which are the result of not signing it and the implementation annex, as well as the non-handover of the chief terrorist Milan Radoicic and his group responsible for the terrorist attack in Banjska i Zvecani in September 2023, where the sergeant of the Kosovo Police, Afrim Bunjaku, was killed.
The meeting also discussed regional cooperation, neighborhood relations and the dialogue process mediated by the European Union for the normalization of relations with Serbia.
This meeting, which took place in the Prime Minister's office, was held after the launch event of the first phase of pre-qualification for the design and construction of battery energy storage systems (BESS) within the framework of the agreement with the Millennium Challenge Corporation worth 236.7 million dollars. In this context, Prime Minister Kurti thanked the USA for their support and support in the framework of energy projects, the Prime Minister announced.
They also discussed bilateral relations between our two countries, new opportunities for their advancement and deepening, and the benefits of the Strategic Dialogue. The quick actions undertaken by the Republic of Kosovo for housing Afghan refugees and alignment with the United States of America and the European Union in condemning and sanctioning Russia's aggression against Ukraine were also highlighted.
Prime Minister Kurti informed Deputy Secretary Verma about the development and progress that Kosovo has seen in the last four years, as we remain oriented towards the strategic goals of NATO and EU membership. With economic growth on one side and democratic progress on the other, Kosovo has proven that economic development and democratic progress go hand in hand, said the Prime Minister.
Verma was accompanied by the US Deputy Assistant Secretary for the Western Balkans, Alexander Kasanof, while the First Deputy Prime Minister, Besnik Bislimi, and the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Diaspora, Kreshnik Ahmeti, were also present at the meeting.
