In the third attempt, Kosovo MPs approved the report of the temporary commission for verification of mandates, thus paving the way for the swearing-in of MPs and the constitution of the assembly.
The approval of the report with 119 votes out of 120 in total came after the official submission of the resignations of the government cabinet, an issue that caused the failure of the two previous sessions, amid opposition from the opposition.
After the swearing-in of the deputies of the ninth legislature, the Vetëvendosje Movement, as the party that came out first in the elections, nominated Albulena Haxhiu for the position of Speaker of Parliament, who in the previous government held the position of Minister of Justice.
But the proposal expressed by Glauk Konjufca did not receive the support of the Parliament. Only 57 MPs voted in favor of the candidacy, 20 against and 3 abstained. Those who abstained were the MPs of the Social Democratic Initiative, who were rumored to have a coalition agreement with Vetëvendosje, while those of the PDK and AAK did not participate in the vote.
The leader of the Democratic Party of Kosovo, Memli Krasniqi, noted that the vote had shown that Kurti does not have the votes for the government, as only 57 MPs out of the 61 he needs had voted in his favor.
After the vote, the chair of the session, Avni Dehari, requested a 20-minute break for further consultations. (A2 Televizion)
