Irregularities in counting, CEC orders recount in 50 polling stations

The Central Election Commission decided on Monday that the Counting and Results Center would recount the votes for political entities from 50 polling stations, 15 of which belong to different municipalities, while the other 35 belong to the municipality of Vushtrri alone.

This decision came after 15 polling stations found a discrepancy between the number of signatures on the Voters' List and the number of ballots inside the ballot box, writes A2 CNN. Meanwhile, for 35 other polling stations that belong only to the municipality of Vushtrri, the CEC made a decision after "a difference in the votes of the candidates was noticed."

CEC member Arianit Elshani said that these two recommendations came from the Electoral Operations Council, to proceed with a full recount for all political entities, which are distributed throughout Kosovo.

"15 polling stations have been identified, in which there is a discrepancy of one signature and two signatures on the signature list and one or two more or less ballots in the ballot box. These 15 polling stations, as a recommendation of the election operations council, have been recommended to proceed with a full recount for all political entities, which are distributed throughout Kosovo. A second recommendation is with the report that we have received on the results of the LDK candidates from the Vushtrri polling stations, which has come as a recommendation that 35 polling stations, for which the difference in the votes of the candidates is observed, be put into a full recount", said Elshani.

Meanwhile, the director of the Office for Registration, Certification and Financial Control of Political Entities, Besnik Buzhala, added that the Secretariat is ready to begin the recount of these polling stations today at 4:00 PM.

"The Secretariat is ready to begin the recount of ballot boxes today at 4:00 PM. Accredited observers from political entities and other organizations will also be notified. Regarding the evaluation of ballot boxes throughout Kosovo, which are 177 in total, I would like to inform you that yesterday, March 9, 2025, at 2:32 PM, we received the ECAP decision. Once this deadline for appeals to the Supreme Court has expired, tomorrow we can begin opening the 177 boxes for the purpose of evaluating invalid ballots, in accordance with the ECAP decision, or at the latest on Wednesday morning," Buzhala added.
