The European Union is neither aware of nor involved in the project to build two bridges over the Ibar River, parallel to the main one. This is what an EU spokesperson has said about the project being pushed forward by the incumbent government of Albin Kurti.
The European Union says that any construction decision regarding this bridge must be made carefully and with the involvement of all affected communities.
"The EU is neither aware of nor involved in this project. Any decision to build infrastructure on the Ibar River must be taken carefully and in a comprehensive manner, fully involving all affected communities," the EU spokesperson said, writes A2 CNN.
Albin Kurti's Vetëvendosje Movement has published a photograph of the project they intend to implement, showing two bridges that would connect the Albanian-majority south and the Serb-majority north of Mitrovica.
This move came a few days after the establishment of the joint board of North Mitrovica and South Mitrovica.
"The Memorandum of Cooperation between MMPHI and the Municipality of North Mitrovica began with the project for the construction of two new bridges over the Ibar River connecting the south and north of Mitrovica. This project will facilitate the movement of citizens and will serve as infrastructure for communication, integration and development between the two parts of the city. This was emphasized during the signing meeting between Minister Liburn Aliu and Mayor Erden Atiq, which was also attended by Minister Elbert Krasniqi and Deputy Minister Hysen Durmishi," the Vetëvendosje statement said, writes A2 CNN.
