Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Infrastructure, Belinda Balluku, unveiled today to the citizens of Fier the infrastructure map of Albania. According to her, infrastructure remains one of the key priorities of the government in the journey towards the objectives of “Albania 2030”. During the activity “Infrastructure, achievements and challenges”, Balluku said that currently 40 construction sites have been opened throughout the country, while over 1000 kilometers of roads have been built or rehabilitated.
"Infrastructure is the basic pillar of every economic sector - tourism, agriculture and industry. We have 40 construction sites open throughout the country. We have made a radical transformation, building road axes with European parameters and criteria, these construction sites include works of art that construction or architecture students can use as lessons, I mention here the Murriz tunnel," said Balluku.
One of the main projects highlighted by the minister was the Kashar-Lekaj axis, a new road connecting the north with the south without passing through Tirana, part of the Blue Corridor – one of the most important European corridors for the transport of goods and passengers. The segment includes 2 tunnels, 6 bridges and 9 underpasses, and is expected to be completed within the contract period.
"Within 2 years, we will deliver Thumanë-Milot and Milot Balldren. From Kashari to Lekaj we have a completely new track that connects to Tirana, thus creating a 33-kilometer journey like the Blue Corridor with a speed of 130 km/h. Giving access to all northern highways to connect to those of the south without passing through the capital. This segment is completely new. We have 2 tunnels, 6 bridges, 5 bridges and 9 underpasses. An infrastructural work complete with all works of art is not easy. Lekaj-Kashar will be delivered on time with all the main parameters as foreseen in the contract", said Balluku.
Speaking about the Thumanë Milot axis, Balluku emphasized that "this is a completed project, a contract has been signed, we are in the stage of furnishing the construction site to start the works directly."
As for the Thumanë-Kashar axis, which is a completed segment, the Deputy Prime Minister stated that from June 30 to today, 6.5 million vehicles have passed through.
Balluku also announced that the Thumanë-Milot and Milot-Balldren projects are expected to be completed in the next two years, considering this a radical transformation of Albanian infrastructure.
