On May 8, the first test landing of an aircraft on the 3.8-kilometer long runway will be carried out at Vlora Airport. The news was announced by Deputy Prime Minister Belinda Balluku during a meeting on the progress of strategic projects in the field of air and maritime transport in Vlora.
"On May 8, in just a few days, we will have the first landing test on the 3.2 kilometer runway here in Vlora, leaving a few months, but within the summer season, to start official operations from Vlora Airport, the airport of all Albanians."
According to her, the construction and operationalization of Vlora Airport will create 1,200 jobs for all those people who want to work and contribute to the Civil Aviation sector.
"Vlora Airport is the first airport to have combined 3 components. The first component is civil aviation, i.e. passenger transport, the second component is aircraft maintenance, i.e. a new subsector in Albania, which will bring employment to hundreds of boys and girls. An airport with an extraordinary impact on jobs and income. The third component will be cargo. Vlora expects 3 million passengers in the first year of operation. 1200 jobs are expected, some of which have begun recruitment. Salaries in Civil Aviation are very similar to other European countries. Maximum capacity is 4.5 million."
Balluku also announced that the International Air Transport Association, IATA, has assigned the airport and ticket sales code to Vlora Airport, VLO.
