The Viluni Gorge on Velipoja beach has been blocked by sand that has not been cleaned. The problem, which has been going on for more than 3 years, has damaged the lagoon because fish are not circulating and prevents fishermen from going out to sea with their boats.
On the other hand, there is also a risk of flooding for homes near the lagoon.
For environmental expert Ervis Krymbi, the blockage of the Viluni Gorge is an early problem that also damages the ecosystem.
According to fishermen and environmental experts, the only way to clean the mouth of the Viluni is through a special dredger ship used for dredging.
About 6 months ago, the regional directorate of the Drainage Board in Lezha cleaned the mouth of the Viluni using excavators, but that intervention was not efficient and was blocked again after a short time. (A2 Televizion)
