"Orange canisters should not be used", the head of the Fire

With the decrease in temperatures, a large number of citizens are using gas cylinders, not only for cooking, but also for heating. In Tirana, the director of the fire service, Shkëlqim Goxhaj, says that 90% of fires in apartments occur due to gas leaks from cylinders, mainly orange ones.

"We should never bring 5 kg orange camping cylinders into homes. If we look at the incidents with these cylinders, almost 90% of the cases come from these. The orange cylinders themselves, in their body construction, do not have the guarantee of other cylinders that are of standard and are used in family environments," Goxhaj declared for A2 CNN.

But what should a citizen who uses a gas cylinder keep in mind?

"Where gas is used, we must have a signaler next to the device. It does not cost much, it is a very cheap cost for citizens and it is a device that works for a long time. If we have a gas leak, this device signals that there is a gas leak and at these moments the citizen must react. The citizen must go to close the gas cylinder and open the environment to ventilate it. Do not touch any light switches there, do not do any other action, do not even go with a cigarette into these environments," he told A2 CNN.

In many cases, fires have also broken out in buildings due to electrical overload. Goxhaj advises citizens and building administrators to be equipped with powder extinguishers.

"For electricity, fires usually start in electrical boxes, that is, where energy is distributed, whether in family homes or in buildings. In both cases, it is good for citizens to have 6 kg of powder fire extinguishers in their homes."

According to Goxhaj, during the winter season, in Tirana alone, firefighters have at least 3 cases of gas leaks in apartments per day. (A2 Televizion)
