Labova e kryqit, a village in the Gjirokastra region that is increasingly preferred by local and foreign tourists, took its name precisely from the Church, a cultural monument of the first category, located in this village, one of the oldest not only in our country but also in the region. The first cross of this church, according to records, was made with wood taken from the cross on which Jesus was crucified. But what are the values ​​of this church that are officially recognized by the regional directorate of cultural heritage?

"It is one of the rare Byzantine churches in our country. Due to its unique values, based on architectural parameters, it has great value not only for our country, but also beyond. It dates back to the 8th century AD and has undergone several changes, culminating in 1776, when a reconstruction was carried out and several other elements of this cult object were added. Some of the well-known Byzantine authors have spoken about its values," Ardis Duka, DRTK, Gjirokastër, tells A2 CNN.

But despite its special value, this church still lacks proper administration or preservation. The church's custodian is a local resident, who takes care of it as best he can, but also demands better care and administration of this rare value.

"There should be a wash, because it will look better, and tourists will be pleased, because it will look as if it was done from scratch. The paints and lime should come out so that tourists and locals can see that there are figures that have been covered with lime. It is good to have a ticket and two euros. The church should collect income for itself and it is too much for the state to take it," says Harallamb Drazho, guardian of the Church of Labovo, to A2 CNN.
