The Special Court has decided this Monday to leave in force the security measure "obligation to appear" against the former Minister of Health, Ilir Beqaj.
The former minister appeared at the GJKKO in the company of his lawyer Ermal Yzeiri in the first court session, related to the investigations launched for the sterilization concession.
Beqaj spoke to the media after the session, reiterating his position not to oppose the justice's decision, which has also stopped his departures abroad, despite his reservations about the investigative process.
" I have only two messages to convey. First, as we made public the day before yesterday, I am at the disposal of this investigative process and I have decided, beyond the opinion I may have or the reservations of my lawyers, not to oppose that decision", said Beqaj .
Furthermore, the former minister defended the concession of sterilization of health equipment, saying that every day it saves the Albanian state 2.4 days of hospital stay for patients.
" Secondly, I continue to believe that what we have done in Health has been a good thing and has brought radical change to the health service of Albanians. In January, the case in question has been under investigation for 8 years. In these 8 years , every day in all surgical rooms of Albania, 400 surgeons operate in modern, sterile conditions. Every year, about 60,000 Albanians are operated on, and in each operation, the finances of the Albanian state are saved every day by 2.4 days of hospital stay ", said Beqaj.
Until now, from the investigation of the Special Prosecutor's Office, Ilir Beqaj is the highest official under accusation for the violations found with the public-private partnership contract of sterilization worth 100 million euros, while a few months ago in handcuffs for this matter are put the businessman, Ilir Rrapaj and his deputy in the Ministry of Health, Klodian Rrjepaj.
So, the legal representatives of Beqaj have 5 days to appeal today's decision of the First Instance in the Appeal of GJKKO.
