The Archbishop of Albania, Joan Pelushi, was enthroned this Saturday at the "Resurrection of Christ" Cathedral, sitting on the highest throne of the Autocephalous Orthodox Church of Albania.
This moment marks the beginning of his duty as leader of the Orthodox Church in the country, thus opening a new chapter in the history of the Albanian church.
Hundreds of believers, present at the ceremony, closely followed this important historical event for the Albanian Orthodox community, which marks the first enthronement of an Albanian archbishop.
The ceremony was attended by representatives of the Albanian state and politics, including President Bajram Begaj, Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs Igli Hasani, Speaker of Parliament Elisa Spiropali, Deputy Prime Minister Belinda Balluku, ministers Pirro Vengu and Blendi Gonxhja, former presidents Bamir Topi and Alfred Moisiu, MP Pandeli Majko, as well as the leader of the Democratic Party, Sali Berisha.
