Known as the ship of hope, the "Bel Espoir" is a historic sailing schooner, which is not only a testament to seamanship, but also a symbol of hope and social upliftment.
Built in 1944 in Svendborg, Denmark, by the J. Ring Andersen shipyard, it initially served for trade in the Baltic Sea and then as a fishing vessel in the distant waters of Terre-Neuve, writes A2 CNN.
In 1968, it was purchased by the French association AJD (Amis du Jeudi-Dimanche), founded by former chaplain Michel Jaouen, with the aim of helping young people with social problems and addictions through the practice of sailing and life on board.
Since March 26, 1993, "Bel Espoir" has been declared a national floating monument in France and continues to sail between the Caribbean and the coasts of France, as a ship of hope and revival for many young people. (A2 Televizion)
