African swine fever has appeared again in our country. The Ministry of Agriculture announces that an outbreak has been identified in Ishull-Lezhë, on a farm in which 15 pigs have died and have already been buried.
For veterinary experts, the spread of such diseases in our country has been raised as a concern months ago. While the measures taken are considered delayed.
"We are talking about a disease that is not dangerous for the consumer. Normally the consumption of products from sick animals, since it lowers immunity, it is not a nutritious meat, it is not recommended to consume these sick animals. Animal plague is about the great economic damages that are caused. But measures have been taken for other diseases", says Ervin Resuli, head of the Professional Order of Veterinarians, for A2 CNN.
In addition to swine plague, Albania has taken measures for a number of diseases that are at risk of being transmitted by imports to other countries where they are present, such as brucellosis, blue tongue or that of ruminants. Although this disease is not transmitted to humans, it is important to be careful according to experts.
"It is essential for the ministry to take measures to make available the supporting material base, disinfectant, clothing, that is, logistics, while in terms of the number of veterinarians, there is the right amount and with the right knowledge", says Resuli.
The affected farm has been put under surveillance and by order of the Ministry of Agriculture, the sale and trading of live pigs in open areas and live animal markets, in the territory of Lezhë Municipality, has been banned. (A2 Televizion)
