"A dream that becomes reality." With these words, the Mufti of Shkodra, Imam Muhamed Sytari, defined the inauguration of the Lead Mosque. The cult object was inaugurated today with the presence of dignitaries and the Turkish Ambassador in Tirana.
For the head of the Municipality of Shkodra, Benet Beci, the complete restoration of the Lead Mosque is a moment that makes us all proud as it restores the dignity of this unique cult object in the entire Balkans.
The Turkish Ambassador to Albania, Tayyar Kağan Atay, in his speech, not only praised the investment made by the Turkish government, but also the complete restoration of this facility, which comes as a cooperation between the two governments, the Turkish and Albanian governments.
The Lead Mosque is one of the most important monuments of Ottoman architecture in Albania. Located near the entrance to the Rozafa Castle, at a unique point where history and nature collide, this mosque is a symbol of Shkodra's cultural identity.
Built in 1773, it was nicknamed the "Lead Mosque" because of its lead roof, a unique element that gave it strength and elegance. The structure is built in the classical Ottoman style with a central dome, four smaller domes, and an elegant minaret, while the surrounding environment reflects historical tranquility and grandeur.
After repeated damage from floods and time, it was restored thanks to the cooperation of the Turkish Government and the Albanian Government and today stands more beautiful than ever, as a living testament to Shkodra's religious coexistence, cultural heritage, and resistance in the face of time.
