The President of the United States, Donald Trump, said he would consider sending Palestinians to Albania, writes A2 CNN. In a press conference at the White House, alongside Jordan's King Abdullah, Trump did not exclude our country from the list of countries that could host Palestinians who will be displaced from Gaza.
Journalist : Would you consider other countries, not Jordan and Egypt? There has been talk of Indonesia, Albania. Other countries...
Donald Trump : Yes, of course, I would. And we have other countries that want to get involved. We have a lot of people that want to get involved. There is a great feeling to help the Palestinians. There are a lot of good countries in the world, people who run these countries with big hearts, and this gentleman (King Abdullah of Jordan) is at the top of the list.
A few weeks ago, Israeli journalists posted on social media that Albania would host Palestinians. But Prime Minister Edi Rama denied the news, dismissing some of the claims as untrue.
Since that day, Trump has repeatedly stated that his goal is to remove Palestinians from Gaza, to transform the territory into the "Riviera of the Middle East," writes A2 CNN. He initially said that Jordan and Egypt would have to host the Palestinians of Gaza, but was immediately met with rejection by the two Arab states.
There have been numerous reactions against it from Saudi Arabia and other countries. The last to strongly reject the idea was German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier, during a visit to Turkey.
Gaza is currently almost completely destroyed by Israeli bombing, which began shortly after October 7, 2023, when Hamas militants killed over 1,000 people, about 700 of them civilians, in an organized attack inside Israeli territory.
The ensuing conflict, which ended a few weeks ago with a ceasefire, is reported to have killed over 45,000 Palestinians in Gaza. (A2 Televizion)
