TikTok will be closed in Albania by March 13, 2025, following a decision by cybersecurity authorities.
The National Cyber Security Authority (AKSK) has ordered internet companies to take measures to block access to the TikTok application and its digital infrastructure on Albanian territory.
According to the AKSK order, actions such as:
Blocking TikTok IPs in Albania
TikTok DNS blocking
TikTok Server Name Indications (SNI) Blocking
Blocking the IPs of ByteDance, the owner of TikTok
The decision to close TikTok came after a public consultation held in December 2024, as a result of a tragic event that occurred in February 2025. The murder of 14-year-old Martin Cani by a peer, due to a fight that started on social media, has raised major concerns about the safety of young users of the platform.
The decision was based on the legal basis approved by the Council of Ministers on March 6, 2025 and is a measure to protect users from harmful or illegal content. The authorities require each internet service operator to confirm by March 13 that they have implemented the TikTok block. (A2 Televizion)
