Food safety is the next test that Albania must pass this year on World Consumer Day. This is as an effort to gain the trust of consumers and at the same time to obtain the approval of the European Union institutions.
“Regarding food safety in general, the legal framework is not yet in line with the General Food Law Regulation. The legal framework for official controls is not in line with the Official Control Regulation. The National Food Authority is redesigning the system for inspection statistics, data management and transparency, but much work is still needed to reduce the administrative burden for planning and reporting on risk-based official controls.”
Given these tasks that are now even more pressing, the Ministry of Agriculture has also drafted a new document on national policies for food safety, which aims to invest in a network of laboratories and inspectorates, facilitate progress towards the accreditation of primary analytical methods, and improve Risk Analysis and Internal Control.
Strengthening the national agri-food control system is a shared responsibility involving various stakeholders, including government bodies, the food industry and consumers, states the document released for public consultation.
"Time mine" that seriously threatens the entire food safety chain. This is the conclusion of the government, which admits that Albania does not have a specific law on animal health. To correct this problem inherited from our past, a draft law "On Animal Health" has been submitted to the Parliament.
