After the loan agreement with the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development signed at the beginning of February, works on the construction of the Vorë-Hani i Hoti railway will start soon. The 120 kilometer long infrastructural work connecting Albania with Montenegro is expected to be completed in 2029 at a cost of around 356 million euros.
"It is foreseen that 12 stations will be built or reconstructed. This railway will have 12 bridges and there is also a tunnel located in the area of Lezha, a tunnel with a length of 320 meters. On the other hand, the speed of this railway line is expected to be 120 kilometers per hour", said Balluku.
The railway will be able to be traversed for 2 hours on average and on the other hand, there will be an annual flow of 2.3 million passengers or 900 thousand tons of cargo per year.
"The commissioning of the Vorë-Hani i Hoti line is expected to have a very important social and economic impact. As in the construction phase of this railway, it is anticipated that 1,000 people will be employed, while in the operation phase, it is anticipated that the number of employees will be, on this line alone, 100 people", says the minister.
The ambassador of the European Union was also present at the ceremony. our country, Silvio Gonzato who also gave signals for the launch of the project, part of "Corridor 8".
"The project of expanding railway lines in the region and transport with the most environmentally friendly means is in the EU's attention. We are looking forward to the opening of the Corridor 8 project. We are waiting for the development of the project in the process. I hope that this railway line will be inaugurated as soon as possible, because it is ecological, it serves development and people move freely and ecologically", said the ambassador.
