A second column may be added to the pension scheme this year. From just state and private, the scheme will also include mandatory pension, a combination of state and private.
"In my judgment, its implementation, which relies on an individual mandatory savings account approach, offers a promising perspective as it is designed to complement the first pillar, ensuring diversification of income sources for pensioners and more consolidated public finances", declared Mimoza Kaçi, General Director of AFSA.
This means that an Albanian in employment can receive three payments: in addition to social security covered by the employer, he pays half of the money quota determined in the mandatory private pension scheme, including the voluntary system, at retirement age.
"Kosovo has it, RMV has it, Europe has it for years. We call it the second column. Or the mandatory private column. North Macedonia has it at the level of 8 percent of the salary which goes into a pension fund," said the Deputy Minister of MEKI, Olta Manjani.
In addition to approximation with the European Union legal framework, the introduction of another column in the current scheme is seen by insurance market actors as the only way to save the current pension system mired in deficit. (A2 Televizion)
